Bloomberg first mayor to ban plastic polystyrene, when will more cities follow?

Michael Bloomberg will battle in his last year as mayor of New York with the plastic polystyrene. This plastic is used to make plastic disposable cups and packaging for takeaway. He said he wants to exclude the packaging material from the Big Apple.
The offending plastic, also used for trays in public schools is difficult to recycle and does not break down. According to Bloomberg, the insulation therefore suffer the fate of lead paint, which is banned in the United States. In several U.S. cities, including Los Angeles and Seattle, the attack on the use of disposable equipment already opened.
Actions and regulations
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is known for his tough regulations from banning large sodas to smoking in parks. But he is also known for his actions and regulations to create a better lifestyle and a better and greener environment.
This started in 2007 when he pushed to regulate trans fat in food preparation. Trans fats have been shown to raise “bad” LDL cholesterol while lowering “good” HDL cholesterol, and even moderate consumption has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease.
In March 2011 Bloomberg prohibited sugary drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces in certain venues.  The ban is meant to combat obesity and encourage residents to live healthier lifestyles, according to the New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office. But many have decried the ban as a sign of the growing “nanny-state” and an unfair intrusion on personal freedom.
Something we can do without
And now he proposed a new target during his final State of the City speech last Thursday: plastic foam containers.
“Styrofoam increases the cost of recycling by as much as $20 per ton because it has to be removed,” the mayor said. “Something we know is environmentally destructive, that is costing taxpayers money, and that is easily replaceable, I think, is something we can do without.”
Specifically, the ban will target certain polystyrene foam products, not necessarily Styrofoam, a trademarked product of Dow Chemical Co. used in foam insulation and construction products. ” We’ll work to adopt a law banning Styrofoam food packaging from our stores and restaurants,” Bloomberg added.

Bloomberg, who is now 11 years on the plush seat, said that New York has ‘unfinished business’, and ‘ only 320 days to finish it. “He will aim on his green ambitions, including recycling and electric transport.
Forced to work with greener solutions
For SD Trading this is not more than logical, common sense! We can’t continue polluting the earth on a scale like this. We have to start looking at all alternatives there are. Producers question current green alternatives as these should be too expensive. However they do need to make the entire calculation.  At this moment they don’t take the cost of recycling into consideration because that is paid by us the tax payers.  If we succeed in having the producers pay for their pollution, they will be forced to work with greener solutions like ours.
